In Taipei, a disabled scientist named Hashimoto uses his invention, the "Menger Sponge," to capture the spirit energy of a child in an old building. He invites Detective Tung, a lip reading expert, to join his research team to understand the ghost's lip movements. Hashimoto tries to uncover why the spirit energy doesn't disappear, while Tung discovers the identity and tragic story of the boy—a child with a tumor who was killed by his own mother and buried near a nuclear plant. Hashimoto concluded that the child's anger toward the mother and the location of her grave was the key to the energy that persisted. When the government decided to stop research, Hashimoto slipped into madness, taking the spirit with him. What happens when humans try to play with the boundaries between life and death?
